Members of the Robotics Lab at the Carlos III University in collaboration with the RoboCity2030 consortium from Madrid have carried out this this week a disseminating and motivating experience in the area of robotics with teenagers in school SEK El Castillo Villanueva de la Cañada.rnThis experience is framed in the collaboration of this consortium with HispaRob and Cero en Conducta platform and is related with the upcoming European Robotics Week and its activities in educational robotics.rnYoung people have enjoyed the explanations and demonstrations of Raul Pérula and Felix Rodriguez Cañadillas

The Robotics Lab at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in collaboration with RoboCity2030 and the Cero en Conducta platform is making two experiences in educational robotics next week.rn These activities, which also involve HispaRob are a pilot experience, have the antecedent of an educational robotics activity nationwide that was conducted last European Robotics Week. This educational robotics activity pioneered this European Robotics Week that is now in its fourth year (2014).rn The activity aims to bring the world of robotics to the little ones from the angle of experimentation

The SARBOT team, which includes members of the UAH, CSIC, UPM and UC3M groups, having been selected as the only Spanish team and one of the three European countries to participate in the previous edition of the DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC) under the Department of Defense of the United States, and obtaining a good position, will try to improve their position in December 2014.

The doctoral thesis presented by Julián Colorado (UPM) and supervised by Antonio Barrientos and Claudio Rossi obtained theCEA-Robotnik award for the best thesis in robotics in 2013. The work was entitled BaTboT. A biologically inspired flapping and morphing bat robot actuated by SMA-based artificial muscles.

Two articles written by professors at the Polytechnic School of the University of Alcalá are among the Top 10 of the best research papers in the decade from 2000 to 2012 of the journal IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems. The article that has got the no. 8 has been written by the team led by Luis M. Bergasa the UAH group of RoboCity2030.rn

rnThe proposed Pablo Fernandez and Luis Miguel Bergasa made is the development of a tracking system and navigational assistance to allow blind people to be guided in structured indoor environments, as well as outdoor environments using sensor fusion of GPS and machine vision.rnYou can find more info at the link.

Collaboration between UC3M and Kings College London (KCL) has given rise to a publication in International Journal of Humanoid Robotics. Authors of this paper are Miguel González-Fierro (UC3M), Carlos Balaguer (UC3M), Nicola Swann (Kingston University and Thrishantha Nanayakkara (KCL). The article in press is named Full-Body Postural Control of a Humanoid Robot with both Imitation Learning and Skill Innovation. This collaboration includes an appointment for coadvising the PhD thesis of Miguel González-Fierro who had a research stay in KCL in 2011.
